Streets. Relationships. Life. Each one requires navigation. We pore over guidebooks and maps to understand which direction to take. And, at times, even with the best intentions, find ourselves lost.
Navigating Prague this last week, as we visited our missionaries, we ran into challenges. Rain. A closed metro stop. Misunderstood directions. Nothing too serious, but challenges requiring navigation, nonetheless.
Navigating life situations complicated by living in an unfamiliar culture finds missionaries needing our ministry of care. Coming alongside them, whether in Prague, Sofia or Banska Bystrica on this trip, or all the other places we visit on all the other trips, we listen, and assist in navigation.
The birth of a baby, marriage, loneliness, kids, longings, conflict, life. Situations needing attention. No matter where one lives, but particularly outside of one’s home country, having someone care is a comfort. To come alongside, to understand the navigational challenges, to assist in finding answers. This. Our ministry of presence. Providing a shelter for navigation. A shelter for finding God’s solutions.
A map. Navigation. Answers. “The revelation of God is whole and pulls our lives together. The signposts of God are clear and point out the right road. The life-maps of God are right, showing the way to joy.” Psalm 19:7
