Sadness and hope. Sorrow and joy. A college friendship that blossomed beyond freshmen antics and late night restaurant runs. This is what we mourned and celebrated just a few days ago in Blairsburg, Iowa.
Tim and Janice. College friends of the 1970’s. Chile and Mexico captured their missionary hearts. We held down the fort in mid-west pastorates. Connecting a few times over the years, our friendship remained sweet.
Then. Just as we were about to embark on our ministry of providing care for missionaries, Tim called from Mexico to offer encouragement. And. To pray over us. Our friendship no longer centered on “remember when…”, but took a leap into the “here and now”. With that call we linked arms in ministry.
Then. Tim’s untimely, unexpected death. We lost a dear friend. My college roommate lost her husband and best friend. In that loss, we find ourselves in God’s presence. Such sorrow in loss. Such joy in heaven. Mourning and celebration. All in the little town of Blairsburg. And beyond. Precious friendship. Eternal life. Hope and promise.
