Here we are. First Lebanon. Then Jordan. Once Moab, the land of Ruth. The land where Israelites wandered in long ago centuries. The land of the Phoenicians and Edomites. And, the Ammonites. Ammon. Ammon, Jordan. Descended from the son of Lot.
And land of the Jordan River. “Then Jesus came from Galilee to the Jordan to be baptized by John.” Matt. 3:13
Scholars, archaeologists, and theologians have come to agreement that the baptism of Jesus occurred on the east side of the Jordan River. Placing the moment in the land of Jordan.
Poised, just feet from the land of Israel, our hearts stand still. Mud. Icy water. Holy moment. Dipping his fingers, Brian rises up to baptize me in the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. Teardrops fall.
In the precious name of Jesus, we are grateful.
